What are the most Profitable Keywords? And, how do you find them?
Profitable keywords are by definition keywords that you can use to generate website visitors that convert to sales and ultimately affiliate commissions in your bank account. The cost of generating traffic via your kewyords should be offset by the amount of profit you make. Obviouslly the more commission you make over and above the cost of the clicks generated by your keyword the better. The secret is to find the most profitable keywords that will convert at a healthy enough level to make you money! Simple as that. Profitable keywords can be split into two arenas:
I will address PPC profitable keywords first.
There are 4 things to consider here:
Even the most profitable keywords can come from using a very low bid PPC strategy. This is easy enough to do in principle, you just select the minimum bid allowed by Google for your given keyword. Why would you do that? Surely you will be getting less clicks than if you pay a higher cost per click bid price? Of course, but try to tell me why not?. The key factor here is speed. If you can set up a keyword project in minutes and let it run at minimum cost per click you could find you are paying only 2p per click over a year and get 2000 clicks at £40 (over 365 days) If you are promoting a product that pays you £10 per sale and you get 10 sales in a year you have made £60 profit. If you set up 10 of these campaigns a day 7 days a week (I estimate this would take about 4 hours a day. You will be left with 3650 campaigns making an average of £219,000 per year from a 28 hour week. Let's say you are lazy and only work 14 hours a week (2 hours a day) you are still on £100k plus per year.
This is information already available to you. You just need to have a good feeling about how many cliks will convert to a sale and weigh the cost per click and sales ratio up against the profit you make per sale. A very simple tool to do this can be found here: PPC break-even tool
Ok, but you still need to know what keywords will get you 2000 clicks per year (or more). Even better, what if you can find keywords that will get you 2000 clicks per week at 2p per click and convert as described in section 1. above. Remember, the key factor here is how well you convert clicks to sales!!! Think about this for a moment. There is no better way than presenting a site/page visitor with exactly what they are looking for!. If you are going to make PPC bids on a whole bunch of generic keywords like "desktop computer printers" you should stop and ask your self why! As a "noob" with limited resources you stand no chance whatsoever. The only guys and/or organizations who can be profitable on keywords like that have very deep pockets! Not only that in 9 cases out of 10 they have very special arrangements with networks and merchants on commission levels that give them the extra margins to gamble in these generic keyword areas. As a "noob" don't even think about it! What is to stop you from creating a landing page for a HP Q6455A Color Laserjet 2600N printer and bidding only on these keywords: [HP Q6455A Colour Laserjet 2600N printer] [HP Q6455A printer] [HP Q6455A Laserjet] [HP Q6455A Colour printer] *Notice I only use [exact match]. Using this strategy NEVER use anything other than [exact match keywords]! The question is "would it be profitable to spend 30 minutes setting up a landing page and only bidding 2p per click?" The answer is look at how many people are appearing for those search terms! It's certainly profitable for them and in all probability they are paying maore than 2p per click. You may find that you land on a great keyword and can icrease your click through (and sales) by increasing the cost per click from the minimum of 2p per click or whatever. As a "noob" your problem is how you can set up a landing page for this kind of project QUICKLY. I have mentioned before how strongly I reccommend the Untapped SEO Software. Try it! It's £30 per month with no minimum term. You can try it for one month and see what happens. The last time I spoke to Steve Dixon at Untapped SEO, they were still sitting around waiting for the first person to cancel a subscription! It aint gonna happen. Another very important factor with this strategy is that by bidding minimum cost per click on only a few keywords you hardly ever need to check your Google Adwords account! Even more importantly you don't have to worry about checking through miles and miles of keyword stats. You keep it stealth; [exact match keywords] at very low cost per click and just repeat the process as fast as you can. Over and over again. The time you save from not having to keep a tight grip on everything, free's you up to just keep churning them out. It's common sense if you think about it:

Again from a "noobs" point of view you may be very suprised how easy this can be. The secret is to get highly targeted kewyords on to page 1 Google (as a bench mark) in a very short space of time and for them to stay there. One of the easiest ways to do this is to register keywords as domain names. An example would be if you were targeting barbados hotels as a sector and your chosen keyword was "cheap hotels barbados". You may wish to regsiter a domain name like: cheap-hotels-barbados.co.uk. You would of course feature affiliate links to merchants who provide cheap hotels in Barbados. The important thing here is to be sure you apply the basic SEO techniques to each of your pages. These are covered here: SEO - search engine optimization Another important factor here is to look at the number of results listed in the search engine results on Google. At the time of writing the number of results for "cheap hotels barbados" on Google UK search is around 130,000. This should NOT be as daunting as it first appears. If you follow the SEO tips covered here you actually have a very strong chance of hitting page 2 Google very quickly. Even page 1. The lower the number of results in the search engine results, the higher your chance of hitting page 1 or even hitting position number 1. If you are a "noob" I cannot stress enough how the Untapped SEO programme is the way you should be going. You can join many UK affiliates who are already using the software and the SEO strategies advocated by Untapped. It's only £30 per month (no minimum contract) and you can create up to 20 websites per month with state of the art hosting included. You can read more on the website here: Untapped SEO
